Piston DP Indicators

A magnetic differential pressure (DP) indicator is a specialised instrument used primarily on filter systems to monitor the pressure drop across the filter element and provide a visual or in some cases, an electrical signal when the filter is becoming clogged.

These indicators operates by using a magnetic coupling mechanism, where a magnetic piston senses the differential pressure between the inlet (dirty side) and outlet (clean side) of a filter. As the filter element accumulates debris, the pressure drop increases and this increased pressure drop moving the magnetic piston element. This motion is transmitted magnetically—without any direct fluid path—through a solid barrier to an external rotary magnet or ferrous ring present on indication ring. that serves as the visible indicator on the device dial.

This indication is isolated through a transparent housing, to clearly indicate when maintenance or filter change is required. In many models, the indicator will reveal a red area or actuate an electrical switch when clogging reaches a preset threshold, ensuring timely intervention and protection of downstream equipment.

Applications and Advantages

These indicators are commonly useful in hydraulic and lube systems, water treatment plants, HVAC filtration, and process industries.
